Logan PlacePortland, ME Logan Place offers 30 efficiency apartments, created to help provide Portland's homeless with permanent homes. Named after Bruce Logan, a Portland social worker and Preble Street board member, Logan Place began serving the homeless community in March 2005. Conveniently located near downtown, it is not far from Preble Street Resource Center, which provides its special needs services. In 2006 the Affordable Housing Tax Coalition awarded this effort with its 12th Annual Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award for Special Needs Housing. This honor was presented to four low-income housing tax credit properties as representing the best in the country—each received a $5000 grant to extend additional services, facilities or amenities to their residents.
